Since I got this new telephone, it's so much fun to take pictures as you go. Quality is crappy, which makes Camera Diaz really upset, but what can I do? Here a little round up from the last few weeks...

The last remaining part of Leipzig's Blechbuechse.

As usual, Germany was really cold and gray and dark, which doesn't mean the countryside isn't pretty, maybe a bit desaturated...

...and once the sun comes out (1 day out of 7), it is gorgeous.

And even though my suitcase got lost (BOYCOTT DHL, please, they are terrible!!!) on the way to Germany, on the way back across Frankfurt I realized that worse things could have happened.

On the plane to NY this Chinese Lady was watching a hilarious Chinese TV show with Chinese actors dressed as nazis.
They fought ninjas.
And the nazi-wife's wore kimonos.
Very interesting stuff, made my delayed flight a joy. Did you - dear reader - notice that on the plane, other peoples screens are always way more interesting than your own?
Back in NY the remaining bits of snow from the blizzard. What is hidden in this picture? Trash bags, a bicycle or a car?

NYC law enforcement changed the rules over new years for people not paying their parking ticket: from now on they just burn your car.

Heavy snowflakes this morning, but no blizzard yet! Awwww.

Here we go again with a little selection of things that caught my eyes over the recent weeks from the beautiful world of advertisement:

#1 Soccer Spots

Of course we are all really excited for the World Cup in South Africa, and here are 3 spots about that:
The first one is of course the most epic one for Nike, Wieden & Kennedy got Director Alejandro G. Iñarritu and the Mill to create this 3 minute madness with all your favourite Players. The
Question I have to ask myself - what is coming next? A 10 minute one? A feature film for the next World Cup? Who knows. As long as it is entertaining nobody really cares I guess.

Sticky Monster Labs from Seoul approached the hype with some nice character animation, also for Nike:

And last but not least another gorgeous 3D character animation by PepperMellon from Argentina and Stink, for the Guardian Newspaper, enjoy.

#2 Paint Spots

After spending long hours comping shots for the Sherwin Williams Spots my awareness for other paint related commercials rose and I stumbled over this Dulux project here which looks really interesting: "Walls" directed by Adam Berg at Glassworks.

#3 Universal Everything

The UK based studio around the brothers Matt and Simon Pyke created a dozen fascinating logo reveals, using dynamics and fluid simulations for AOL. Recently, I found the time to watch them all in a row and I can recommend the same thing to you, dear reader. Here are a few of round 2, go to their Vimeo Channel to see the previous ones as well.

I like the way Universal Everything are mixing up technology and design in order to create something that looks so fresh and so interesting. Their website is certainly worth exploring, many inspiring projects up there, especially the collaborations for MTV with Russian Wunderkind Maxim Zhestkov, who just released his latest piece "Recursion" (you should watch it full screen):

#5 Music Video

Kylie just released the latest single "All the Lovers" and in the video directed by Joseph Kahn, beautiful young people make out in white underwear and slow motion. Also to look out for: the white horse, the white doves and a skyscraper high pile of couples making out. Wow.

#6 Empty LA

Photographer Matt Logue created a series of pictures missing the most important object in Los Angeles: Cars. After being stuck on the massive freeways of this ridiculous city I really enjoyed seeing these. Check out the entire Empty LA project here: CLICK

I doubt that these pictures are retouched, and the project seems a bit like an hommage to the work of the Japanese photographer Masataka Nakano, who spent 10 years working and waiting on "Tokyo Nobody" (from 2001) to get sites in one of the most crowded cities in the world empty of cars and pedestrians:

We were lucky to see the Norwegian folk duo last Friday an I must say this was by far one of the most beautiful and touching shows I've ever been to. The Sound was amazing, the crowd was quiet, their voices and guitar play incredible, every song gave me shivers and goosebumps. To honor their music and to get in a summer mode here the 2 videos from their latest album "Declaration of Dependence".

LA Vol. 2

A few pictures from the trip to LA in march. The weather was fantastic, we picked grapefruits and tangerines right from
the trees and did some serious gardening. Oh — and of course we spent countless hours in the car.

The Getty Center is a very impressive areal containing a beautiful garden, many Richard Meier buildings, museums and
cactuses. You also get a great view over LA and a free ride in a cable car up the hill. Certainly worth a visit!

The LA food culture not only consists of fancy Hollywood restaurants but also of street vendors selling delicious
home cooking and weird fusions, like this korean bbq and mexican soulfood truck.

Another thing we got from one of the street food places in downtown is a Mexican (I believe) specialty: fruit and veggies
with chili, salt and lime juice. Amazingly refreshing and tasty!

Also we tried going for hikes far away from any civilization but the only suitable place we found was the
Angeles National Park where the devastating wild fires wiped out the entire vegetation last year. It looks pretty scary
and of course it was closed to public. Maybe next time...

The Gallery Nucleus had a fantastic show called The Untold Want, featuring the works of Sean Chao and
Jared Andrew Schorr.
Check out their sites if you are into weird miniature creatures and tactile-style cut out paper characters.

The last stop was at Buck LA, the office was designed in the style of Buckminster Fullers work. A lot of
bucky-bally-shapes and wood. Petty sweet!

Sherwin Williams - Paint Chips

Check out the world entirely consisting of paint-colour-reference-chips that Buck NY created for Sherwin Williams in this
30 second spot. There are more commercials in this style to come and I can proudly say that I will continue to work on the compositing, but from now with the node-based Nuke! Comptastic!

Romans Panama Movie

Roman, our friend from Austria who worked with us for 2 years ago just uploaded a movie about his trip to Panama. As far as I got it everything was shot with a DSLR, which creates awesome pictures and a great depth of field, and combined with his well-trained eye for pretty moments and scenes a great movie came out in the end. You can read more about the shoot on his Vimeo page.
Every time we get to see a glimpse of his trips the whole office gets jealous, because Roman is doing, what we all would love to do, we just have no time for it. Well, maybe one day, until then we will have to enjoy his movies and pictures...

The blizzard covered New York with a puffy layer of snow, so I had to take a few
pictures on my way to work this morning.

...Chinatown, well, at least the sun is shining, right?

Everybody is working against the thick ice layers on the street in order to avoid any law suits. Some people use their own energy and little scrapers, others are taking a more classy approach and use the chemical reaction power of table salt and water to melt the ice away.

Buck for Sundance 2010

Both Buck LA and Buck NY went bonkers for this years Sundance Festival, the project included meetings with Bob Redford, Laser Cutting, Ketchup, a lot of stop motion, glowing wires, typewriters, Painting, Cutting thumbs, staying at the office for a few days straight, well, basically everything you need to really appreciate going home for 2 weeks after the project was done.

West Coast Pictures Vol. 2

After a certain request in the comments the TAJ Team decided to upload a few more pictures from the trip along the west coast, this time also with more explanations. First of all - the trip we made looked like this on the map:

About 1400 miles along the Pacific Coast all the way from LA up to Olympia, WA, were Kitty, Adam, Vic and G were waiting for us at Kitty's parents beautiful place. So here are a few more impressions from along the way.

Explanations for the people of LA how to cross a street. Since they're always in a car they might have forgotten. In the back, the Walt Disney Hall of Music, a beautiful building by Frank Gerry, located in downtown LA.

After realizing that all the water from the streets of LA goes straight to the ocean I burned my speedos.

MJ tribute on the Hollywood Boulevard.

The classic America-Highway-Houses-On-Trailers-Picture, or short, an AHHOTP.

The first hundred days of Barack at a comic store in San Francisco.

A different point of view on the amazing Redwood Trees.

Who wouldn't like to try that, the original Czech Schnitzelwitch in Portland, Oregon.

Cleaning mussels that were caught right in front of Kittys parents beautiful place on one of the many sounds (which are parts of the ocean!) surrounding Seattle and Olympia. There were so many sounds that I already completely forgot, where ours was.

...playing in the ocean water. Apparently 2 of the kids played a bit to hard and got into a high speed that got filmed by Double D too. The video is coming soon.

Germany in the winter can be pretty depressing, especially when you have a solid gray sky for 7 days straight and temperatures around -5˚C. But apart from that it was a great trip, regards again to all the friends I hung out with, it was awesome seeing you!
Here some snowy pictures from Leipzig, both in the gray and in the sun.

The new museum, they are having some great things going on right now, if you are around check out the 60 40 20 exhibition, a big compilation of all artists of the Leipziger Schule.

Sometimes you just need to paint things in order to get some colour in the desaturated environment.

...and awesome type.

My favourite cafe: the Paris Syndrom (weird name, but who cares...) next to the gallery for contemporary art at the Clara-Zetkin-Park.

But one learns to appreciate the sun coming out after such a long time and within a few moments smiles come back on peoples faces and everything looks so pretty.

Reminders of the good old socialist days, here with fancy fashionable snowhats.

And one more thing to do when you are in Leipzig: check out the MZIN store at Paul-Gruner-Str. 64. They got a huge collection of zines, limited edition presses and amazing graphic books. Also there are exhibitions happening and the owner knows a lot about every piece of paper in the store. Found the new Stefan Marx book there. Really good!

At BergdorfGoodman, a fancy department store on 57th and 5th ave, the Display windows are showing original sets from the new Wes Anderson movie "Fantastic Mr. Fox" based on a book by Roald Dahl. That was fun! Not only that I saw a costume store on Saturday night that was completely messed up and emptied, but also tons of beautiful and creative costumes covering up drunk people jumping through the streets of Brooklyn.

Anna and Mike invited us to their new studio and took those beautiful pictures, thanks again so much for that!

The Kiwis (in super cute homemade costumes) tried to sneak in every picture that was taken that night, understandable in this case though, because they wanted to join their Grape friends for a beautiful Still Life.

My personal favourite: The Damian Hirst Installation Costume!
